"Just want to say amen and amen. We are so thankful that we have the blessing of learning so much from those (Chronicles) times." ~ Nancy P.
I'm the founder and lead pastor of New Song Church in Oceanside, California.
Lately, I've felt like church planter again as we figure out how to have a growing, healthy church in a worldwide pandemic.
We're figuring out how to do outdoor services, how to make our online services more engaging, how to connect with church members who are staying home, and how to reach our divided community.
I preached this series in Chronicles this summer, and every week I marveled at how the stories Ezra included speak to the circumstances and needs we are experiencing in these days.
That's why I decided to make it available to you.
Get all the elements of this powerful series, make it your own, and preach to grow your church.
"As a life-long student of the Bible I wanted you to know how much I am appreciating your sermons. My Dad and I watch them separately, then compare notes, prepare separately for our small group and compare notes again before meeting in our small group on Thursday. I am learning so much and feel like I will be such a better witness for our Lord when this season of separation is over." ~Beth S.

Ezra — the writer of Chronicles — knew the Israelites needed encouragement,
so he singled out selected stories of their history...
Stories that would help them emerge from crisis and thrive in their new reality.
The Bible has lessons for every situation we will ever face. Chronicles was written to teach us how to recover from a national crisis.
God is giving us a restart, a reboot, a new chance to live for Him like never before.
“I insist on paying the full price, for I will not take for the Lord what belongs to you or offer burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” 1 Chronicles 21:24
Ezra is teaching us what to do when we’ve disobeyed God and pushed Him away. He’s teaching us how to restart after we’ve sinned, no matter how minor the sin.
"Now grant me wisdom and knowledge so that I may lead these people…"
2 Chronicles 1:10a
Under Solomon’s wisdom, Israel prospers. They have peace, hope, a rising economy, and wealth. It was a time like never before or ever since.
Ezra is teaching us a lesson about wisdom. If you want to start your life over and live at a higher level, wisdom will be essential.
"…all Israel saw that the king had not listened to them…." 2 Chronicles 10:16
Of all the lessons Ezra teaches only one is on fatherhood. There’s only one thing he thinks all fathers need to know as they restart their quarantined lives.
That lesson is the story of Rehoboam. Great dads spend time with their kids. David did. Solomon didn’t. David left a kingdom, Solomon left a broken kingdom.
"The eyes of the Lord roam throughout the earth to show himself strong for those who are wholeheartedly devoted to him." 2 Chronicles 16:9
Sometimes He will let you feel outnumbered… so you can know that you can count on Him. The Lesson of the Route is that when you’re in a mess be faithful to pray...
so that God can be faithful to answer.
"…we are powerless before this vast number that comes to fight against us. We do not know what to do, but we look to you." 2 Chronicles 20:12
Even when we don’t know what to pray. Jehoshaphat’s prayer is one of the simplest, yet most profound prayers in all of Scripture. When you’re in a dark moment, you don’t have to have the solution to your problem. You just have to remember who does.
"When Athaliah, Ahaziah’s mother, saw that her son was dead, she proceeded to annihilate all the royal heirs… " 2 Chronicles 22:10
Bad news is always followed by good news, because the forces of good in this universe are stronger than the forces of evil. A scribe by the name of Ezra knew that. He and his people were emerging from a national crisis.
So Ezra writes stories. Real-life stories, with real-life lessons. One of those stories was a really, really, really bad-news-to-good-news story that involved mayhem and murder over three generations.
"…but we have the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles." 2 Chronicles 32:8
The Bible says that all of us are in a race, and God wants us to finish well. This race isn’t about speed. It’s about focus, and attention. It’s about keeping our eyes on Jesus and loving Him all the way to the end.
"…but we have the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles." 2 Chronicles 32:8
When Hezekiah heard that the Assyrians were coming to kill them, he did all he could to prepare his city and his people, and then he went up in his tower and prayed.
Don’t expect God or others to do for you what you can do for yourself; do expect God to do what you can’t do for yourself.
“…because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before God. Your eyes will not see all the disaster that I am bringing on this place and on its inhabitants.” 2 Chronicles 34:26, 28b
Do you know how a kingdom is restored? A spiritual kingdom, one ordained and blessed by God, is never restored by riots or protests or changing laws.
Throughout history, God-glorifying nations are always restored by revival. By the restoration of people’s commitment to God.
The book of Chronicles was written so we could learn from someone else’s mistakes.
Failure is never final, because God doesn’t want us to suffer and die. He wants us to learn and grow.
"Your words were like fire and our hearts were like wood tonight. I pray that the LORD of the breakthrough continues be near you and fill you so that all who come near your voice will be filled with The Spirit of revival as we were." ~Jim M.
